Furkan Konyali ("we", "us", or "our") built the MyJourney mobile application (the "App") as a free, personal travel-planning tool. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Data You Provide

All data you create within the App is stored locally on your device. We do not operate a server or cloud backend, and we do not have direct access to your saved data. This includes:

1.2 Location, Map, and Route Data

The App requests access to your device's location only while the App is in use to show your position on the map, help you explore nearby places, and support route and navigation-related features. The App may access:

When you search for places, request place details, browse nearby points of interest, or calculate routes and distance estimates, relevant coordinates, map bounds, search terms, and selected journey stop locations may be sent directly from your device to third-party mapping and routing providers described below. We do not store this information on our own servers.

1.3 IP-Based Geolocation (Fallback)

When GPS is unavailable or permission is not granted, the App may send a single request to one of the following services to estimate your approximate location for the initial map view:

These services may receive your IP address. Please review their respective privacy policies.

1.4 Photos, Videos, PDFs, and Device Files

The App requests access to your camera and photo library so you can add cover photos, capture trip memories, pick media for your journeys, and set a profile picture. On some devices, selected videos may be accessed through the system file or document picker. If you attach journey documents such as ticket PDFs, booking confirmations, or photos of tickets, the App may access those files through the system photo library or document picker. Selected photos, videos, and documents are copied into local app storage on your device for offline access and are never uploaded to our servers.

1.5 Clipboard and External Navigation Apps

If you use a copy action in the App, selected text such as an address may be written to your device clipboard. If you choose to open directions or a location in a third-party mapping or navigation app, destination details and coordinates will be shared with the app you select and then handled under that provider's own privacy policy.

1.6 Cached Content

To improve performance, the App may cache certain content locally on your device, such as the last viewed map region, recent place detail snapshots, exact query-result caches used for repeat point-of-interest searches, and selected place images retrieved from third-party sources like Wikipedia or Wikimedia. These caches stay on your device unless you remove the App data, clear them through the App's storage tools, or uninstall the App.

1.7 Data Export and Import (Backup & Restore)

The App lets you create a local backup file that contains a full copy of the data stored on your device (journeys, favorites, memory photos and videos, attached documents, and app settings). The backup file is generated entirely on your device and is never sent to us or to any third-party server. You choose where it goes through your operating system's share sheet — for example, saving it to your Files app, cloud storage of your choice, or sending it to another device.

You may optionally protect the backup with a password. When a password is set, the backup is encrypted with AES-256 on your device. We do not have access to this password and cannot recover the backup if it is lost. When you import a backup, all processing happens locally on your device. If you choose the "Replace all" import mode, your existing on-device data is permanently deleted before the backup contents are restored; this action cannot be undone.

Once a backup file leaves the App (for example, once uploaded to a cloud service or shared with another person), its protection depends on that destination and on the choices you make. You are responsible for the security and handling of any backup files you export.

2. Third-Party Services

The App communicates with the following third-party services to provide mapping, search, routing, reference content, and point-of-interest features. Depending on the feature you use, these services may receive limited data such as search queries, coordinates, map bounds, destination information, language preference, or your IP address:

3. Analytics and Tracking

The App does not use analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising frameworks. We do not track your usage for advertising purposes, and we do not sell your personal data.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored locally on your device using on-device storage such as AsyncStorage, the device file system, and local cache directories. Because we do not operate a backend for user data, we cannot access, view, sync, or recover your saved information remotely. Limited network requests needed for search, maps, routing, or place details are sent directly from your device to the third-party providers listed above.

We recommend keeping your device software up to date and protecting your device with a passcode or biometric lock.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data remains on your device for as long as the App is installed, unless you delete it earlier from within the App. You can remove journeys, favorites, memories, attached documents, and search history at any time, including from the App's storage management tools. Uninstalling the App removes locally stored App data, including locally cached content. Clipboard contents are controlled by your device operating system and may remain there until you replace or clear them.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has entered personal information into the App, please contact us and we will explain the available options for removing that data from the device.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
